P.I.S.D Safety Response Protocols
Pearsall ISD has adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the “I Love U Guys” Foundation for use of the SRP. The Standard Response Protocol has been recommended by the Texas School Safety Center, the organization tasked with supporting key school safety initiatives and mandates for the State of Texas and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan.
The Standard Response Protocol is a synthesis of common practices in use at a number of districts, departments, and agencies across the nation. The SRP includes specific staff and student actions that are unique to the action.
In addition to adopting the Standard Response Protocol, Pearsall ISD train staff in the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Protocol (CRASE). CRASE is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, and Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004. CRASE is intended to develop and prepare a mindset where the SRP prepares for protocols in response to emergencies.
Avoid- Evading an active attacker is the best way to mitigate harm.
Deny- By remaining behind locked doors (as in a Lockdown) chances of harm can be decreased.
Defend- When faced with imminent danger, fight back.
